On Thursday October 9th we had the opportunity to celebrate our September Student Leaders of the Month. At the end of each month our teachers choose two students from each team to represent their team as Leaders of the Month. A big congratulations to our Leaders of the Month and for all they bring to our MJS ONE Community on a daily basis. Thank you to these students for being great role models within our building.

We had a great Spirt Week during the Week of Respect. Thank you to all our students and staff who participated and thank you to our Student Council for organizing the week!
As part of our weather and climate unit, 6th-grade students designed and built their own weather instruments using recycled or household materials for their construction. This hands-on, project-based assignment challenged students to apply their knowledge of meteorological concepts by constructing a working model of a weather instrument, such as a rain gauge, wind vane, anemometer, or wind sock. This activity was designed to make science more tangible and it helped students connect what they’ve learned in class to the world around us.
Through this project, students were able to :
Research the function and design of their chosen instrument.
Apply problem-solving and engineering skills to create a functional model.
Present their weather model to the class.
To celebrate Hispanic Heritage month, seventh grade ELA students read nonfiction articles on Newsela to learn about the artistry and cultural significance of pinatas. Then classes enjoyed a piñata-breaking celebration on the front lawn of MJS. Muchas gracias to the MEF for their support in making this fun enrichment activity possible!
We had our first Connect and Reflect session on Thursday. Thank you to all the families who joined in person and virtually. We had an opportunity to hear from our 6th grade team leaders and was able to share about all the great things happening at MJS. Thank you our families who shared their thoughts and questions to help our MJS community become even stronger. We will plan our second session in January.
The Staff Room got a little snack upgrade! A big thank you to our amazing teachers and staff for everything you do each and every day. You deserve all the treats. And thank you to all of the families who donated these delicious and (sometimes) nutritious snacks and treats. A big thank you to our PTO for coordinating this!
The new switchgear has been installed. This is an important piece to the future Air Conditioning systems at MJS.
Our lost and found table continues to gather many items. A big thank you to our office secretary, Ms. Kelly for taking the time to organize these items so we can get them back to their owners. Below are pictures of all the current items we have in our lost and found. If you notice a item that belongs to your child please have them go to the office to check in with Ms. Kelly before picking up their item. Thank you for your assistance in getting these items back to their owners.
Please check out our Student Council Spirit Wear Fundraiser!

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook (damaged beyond repair) - $365.00
Broken Screen - $90.00
Broken Keyboard - $70.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
