Madison Junior School's student council has earned national recognition from the NAESP for their exceptional dedication to the ASCA's four pillars: student leadership, community service, citizenship, and school spirit. Among the 47 honored student councils nationwide, MJS was the sole middle school among the four recognized in New Jersey. Their impactful initiatives included the "Soup-er Bowl" food drive, which collected over 1700 items for the local food pantry; a Veterans' Day flag sale that raised over $1000 for the Disabled American Veterans Foundation; a school-wide winter dance fostering inclusivity with carnival games and activities; and the creation of a student-led website with a Leaderboard to track participation in student council events.
Our 7th grade student, Avery Breslauer recently entered an art contest that focused on making a poster about keeping Morristown litter free. Avery won the contest and attended the ceremony where they talked about the importance of the posters and how her school would receive a recycling can with her poster on it. MJS now has a brand new recycling can with Avery's beautiful artwork. Congratulations on a fantastic job, Avery!
Lilly Schirmer has been recognized as this year's Morris County Superintendents Middle School Leadership Award recipient for MJS! This prestigious award is given annually to an eighth-grade student in each Morris County middle school who embodies exceptional citizenship and leadership within their school community. On Tuesday evening, we proudly joined Lilly at the Awards Dinner celebrating all the accomplished recipients from across the county. Congratulations, Lilly! Your leadership has enriched our MJS One Community, and we are incredibly proud of you!
The final workshop is Thursday May 15th at 7:00pm. The topic is Managing Conflict and Behavior Changes. The Zoom link will be shared the week of workshop.

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
