The annual Spike for the Cure Volleyball Tournament was a huge win, successfully raising nearly $1,200 for the American Cancer Society and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The positive energy in the MJS gym on Thursday was infectious! This wonderful event was made possible thanks to the hard work and dedication of our Student Council and their fantastic advisors, Ms. Siso and Ms. Kolinchak. Thank you for organizing such a meaningful day!
A spirited shout-out and congratulations to Ms. Ferris and the Spikesaurus Rex, who spiked their way to the championship title! We also recognize Mr. Veiga and the Volley Vipers for an exciting and well-played final game.
Thank you to every player and spectator—your participation truly made this a successful event for all and a great contribution to the fight against cancer.
Thank you to members of our Student Council who assisted us in raising our new American Flag out on the front lawn of MJS this week. It is a beautiful addition to our campus.
On Thursday, our Green Team, Art Club and Culture Club came together in the courtyard for some pumpkin carving. It was a great turn out and students had a great time carving and painting pumpkins to held decorate our courtyard for the fall weather. A big thank you to our MJS PTO for donating the pumpkins!
Ciao! (Hello!) Thanks to a visit from a local Italian American, Culture Club was able to celebrate Italian American Heritage Month with homemade focaccia, fresh homegrown tomatoes and herbs (wow do those herbs smell good!), Italian olive oil, and limonata. We heard about making coffee, shopping in a store, and other parts about daily life in Italy. We saw pictures from Italy and looked through books about art, cooking, and fashion. We ended by singing the song L'italiano by Toto Cutugno - and of course being loud and moving our hands! Grazie!
Seventh grade ELA classes got some hands-on writing practice this week, specifically focusing on effective organization of paragraphs to improve clarity and cohesiveness in writing. Student teams worked together to assemble all the key elements -- topic sentences, context, quotations, explanations, and concluding sentences -- in a powerful, logical, and smooth way. See photos for a peek into this engaging classroom activity!
Our 6th grade STEAM students worked on a Tower of Pong challenge where they had to support a ping pong ball with paper and tape to see who can build the tallest tower.
Our lost and found table continues to gather many items. A big thank you to our office secretary, Ms. Kelly for continuing to take the time to organize these items so we can get them back to their owners. Below are pictures of all the current items we have in our lost and found. If you notice a item that belongs to your child please have them go to the office to check in with Ms. Kelly before picking up their item. Thank you for your assistance in getting these items back to their owners.
Please check out our Student Council Spirit Wear Fundraiser!
It’s that time of year again—the MJS PTO Griggstown Pie fundraiser is back! From October 15 to November 5, you can order delicious sweet and savory pies that come frozen and ready to bake at home. Pick up is Wednesday, Nov 19th between 4-6pm at MJS.
If you don’t need extra pies but want to help, you can donate one to MJS teachers through a fun lottery!
We’re also excited to bring back Pies for a Purpose—a wonderful way to support the MJS PTO while helping people facing food insecurity. All donated pies go to nourish.NJ, a nonprofit serving over 1,000 meals every day in Morristown and Dover, working hard to fight hunger, homelessness, and poverty.
This special project is powered by The Grove Project, which helps kids build social skills and community spirit through volunteer work. Some of our own MJS students from the Grove’s Youth Council will be helping lead this effort.
Let’s make the holidays sweeter and kinder—one pie at a time!

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook (damaged beyond repair) - $365.00
Broken Screen - $90.00
Broken Keyboard - $70.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
