Our Student Council Pickleball Tournament was on Thursday, March 6th and it was a great success. Special thank yous goes out to everyone who played in and supported our pickleball tournament: the students and teachers who came out to watch, the student council members who worked it, the players, and the teachers who refereed the games. Congratulations to the winning team, Aree Jee and winning players Noah Shaughnessey & Lucas Ribeiro!
Be on the lookout for the MEF adult pickleball tournament on Sunday May 31st!
This year the Culture Club will be connecting to Women's History Month in March by talking to women in a variety of careers. This week we enjoyed meeting with the female-owned, Madison-based, small business Crafted. Owner Gina Rowley shared the story of her career background, from publicity to business owner. We discussed what it was like to start her career in the beauty industry, surrounded by strong female role models and mentors. Culture Club members also had lots of questions about owning and running a business, learning a little about what forecasting means and how a local business is also part of the local community. Finally, we experienced the heart of Crafted: we made vision boards!
On Tuesday our 7th graders had a “Beary” good time with our guest presenter, Mrs Stephanie Ghetto, Bear Outreach specialist from the NJDEP Division of Fish and Wildlife, who spoke to us about Black Bears in Morris County. Students learned about bear biology, habits and debunked many previously thought facts about bears about what to do should one approach. Students put forth some excellent questions during the Q & A. We were happy to learn they are actually shy and afraid of humans and don’t attack unless provoked. Students even got to handle some Black Bear artifacts that Mrs Ghetto brought in for us. She certainly gave us much to “paws” and reflect.
The 7th grade math teachers are excited to announce the start of their annual Pi Day fundraiser! Next week 7th graders will have an opportunity to purchase tickets to "pi" their teachers/principals in the face! Students are able to purchase tickets during lunch from Monday through Friday of next week. Tickets are two for a dollar. All of the money raised will be donated to a charity selected by the entire 7th grade. The Pi-in-the-face event will take place on Pi Day, March 14th. Please help us to make this event a SMASHING success!
We are excited to partner with our Robin Advisory program to host parent/guardian workshop series. Robin is the program we are using for our Advisory program this year. In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
