Andy Breckman is a long-standing Madison resident who has written, acted, and produced in many comedic tv shows and movies, including Rat Race, Saturday Night Live, Late Show with David Letterman, and Monk. He shared his own writing journey, even showing some actual middle school comics he’d created. Students saw, read, and performed a scene from a movie script he had written, and then watched a scene from the movie. Students heard about the drafting and revision process, and had the opportunity to ask questions.
This week the Culture Club enjoyed learning about Ramadan and Eid from MJS Teacher Mrs. Ahmadzada. She shared her traditions, explaining about how Ramadan is a time to focus on spiritual growth, good deeds, and empathy for those struggling. Students asked lots of clarifying questions to understand exactly how people spend a month not eating from sunrise to sundown. Mrs. Ahmadzada brought treats to experience Eid Al-Fitr, the celebration to close out the holiday. Students enjoyed pistachio phirni, Turkish Delight, and more. To follow a tradition of giving, they received envelopes with money (chocolate coins!), colored special lantern drawings, and some special celebratory dance moves.
Below is the schedule for our remaining workshops. The next workshop is on Tuesday April 29th at 7:00pm. The topic is Building Resilience and Self-Efficacy. The Zoom link will be shared the week of workshop.

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
