MJS ONE is now complete for the 2024-2025 School Year! Thank you to our students, teachers and families for taking the pledge to be part of our MJS ONE community. I appreciate our partnership as we continue to learn and grow together.
On Thursday we had our 6th grade social. It was an absolute blast! Students spent time in the gym playing basketball, competing in the hungry hippo game along with other games. In the cafeteria students danced the evening away while also participating in various games and taking pictures at the photo booth. There were plenty of snacks as well as Rita's Ice! This was a wonderful opportunity for our 6th grade to come together. We are proud of them as they demonstrated what it means to be MJS ONE! A big thank you to our PTO for hosting and sponsoring this event as well as all of the parent volunteers and teachers who came out to chaperone the event.
Culture Club is back for its second year! This week some veteran 7th grade members enjoyed a walking trip to Delikositas on Main Street, Madison. Students met and talked with the owner about Colombian culture and food - and then enjoyed empanadas, breads, desserts, and more. This was a fun, educational, and delicious way to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month. Tuesday, October 1st is the Kick Off for all students in grades 6-8 who are interested in joining our Culture Club.
Our student artists are already creating beautiful artwork with our Art Teacher, Mrs. Cafaro.
Our students are enjoying their time in our Makerspace with Ms. Barkin-Baron working through the design process in their STEM classes.
Our Morning Hoops program started this week! The Morning Hoops Program provides middle school students with an engaging basketball program before the school day begins (7:00-7:45 am). This initiative focuses on physical activity, teamwork, and providing a positive start to the day. Our goal is to support a climate and culture that fosters a strong school community. A permission slip is required for students to attend this program. Please reach out to Mr. Veiga or Mr. Perrone if your child is interested in attending.
In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.

Thank you for your assistance in helping to remind our students about maintaining and handling our Chromebooks in a responsible and safe way.
