MJS had a great day on Friday celebrating Halloween! Staff and students came dressed up, which filled our building with the Halloween spirit.
MJS homerooms showed incredible spirit and creativity in our Halloween Door Decorating Contest! The festive, spooktacular designs definitely added a vibrant and fun atmosphere to the entire school for Halloween. We had fantastic entries across three categories: Scariest, Funniest, and Movie Theme. Every single homeroom did an awesome job.

Our annual 7th and 8th Grade Halloween Dance on Thursday was a huge hit! The turnout was great, and everyone looked amazing in their costumes. Students enjoyed dancing in the gym, a photo booth, snacks, and games. Thank you to Ms. Siso, Ms. Kolinchak, and the Student Council for organizing the fun, and to the PTO for their essential support. It was a perfect night for our students to demonstrate MJS ONE spirit and socialize together. Next up: the Schoolwide Winter Dance in February!
October 28th is National Chocolate Day and Culture Club members brought an unbelievable amount of diverse chocolates to celebrate. We had chocolates from Germany, Belgium, USA, France and more - and unusual flavors like Pumpkin Latte and Caramel Apple. We had so much we had to save some for next time! We watched some fun movie clips with chocolate and videos about how chocolate is made, and did a trivia game about chocolate. In addition to celebrating the joy of chocolate, one of our members, Sofia, shared an overview about Diwali which was celebrated last week, sharing some special Diwali snacks, too. We are always excited to celebrate - especially when the celebration has great food!

It’s that time of year again—the MJS PTO Griggstown Pie fundraiser is back! From October 15 to November 5, you can order delicious sweet and savory pies that come frozen and ready to bake at home. Pick up is Wednesday, Nov 19th between 4-6pm at MJS.
If you don’t need extra pies but want to help, you can donate one to MJS teachers through a fun lottery!
We’re also excited to bring back Pies for a Purpose—a wonderful way to support the MJS PTO while helping people facing food insecurity. All donated pies go to nourish.NJ, a nonprofit serving over 1,000 meals every day in Morristown and Dover, working hard to fight hunger, homelessness, and poverty.
This special project is powered by The Grove Project, which helps kids build social skills and community spirit through volunteer work. Some of our own MJS students from the Grove’s Youth Council will be helping lead this effort.
Let’s make the holidays sweeter and kinder—one pie at a time!

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook (damaged beyond repair) - $365.00
Broken Screen - $90.00
Broken Keyboard - $70.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.
