Last Friday October 11th we had the opportunity to celebrate our September Student Leaders of the Month. At the end of each month our teachers choose two students from each team to represent their team as Leaders of the Month. A big congratulations to our Leaders of the Month and for all they bring to our MJS One Community on a daily basis. Thank you to these students for being great role models within our building.

Our Spike for the Cure Volleyball Tournament is an event that benefits the American Cancer Society in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Thank you to our Student Council along with Student Council Advisors, Ms. Siso and Ms. Kolinchak for organizing this great event for a great cause.
On Thursday the MJS gym was filled with positive energy and all teams did an awesome job! Congratulations to Mr. Veiga and the Volley Vipers, this year’s Volleyball Tournament Champions with honorable mention to Ms. Marotta and the Baby Silver Fox team for a well-played final game. Together we raised almost $1000.
Thank you to our volleyball teams and our spectators in attendance for making this a wonderful event for all!
Our Peer Leaders are made up of 8th graders and we are excited for the great leadership they will bring to MJS this year. Mr. Hom and Ms. Spangler are the advisors and set up the first Peer Leader Retreat of the year this past Thursday. Students participated in various team building activities throughout the afternoon. They had a visitors come and talk with them including Mr. Sylvester and our Superintendent Ms. Shanley. A big part of our Peer Leader program this year is connecting our Peer Leaders with our 6th grade through Homeroom and a 6th grade buddy system. Peers leaders found out their assigned homeroom as well as the 6th graders that they will be workin with throughout the school year. We are excited for our Peer Leaders to become strong leaders within our MJS One community.
Our students continue to enjoy their time in our Makerspace with Ms. Barkin-Baron working through the design process in their STEM classes.
This week almost 40 MJS students across all grades came together for a collaborative meeting of the Culture Club, Green Team & Art Club. Students heard from club members about each club and could ask questions so they could learn more. Staff from the YMCA joined us to focus on self-care, discussing what we can do to focus on self-care, including some opportunities at the Y. The self-care theme was included throughout the meeting as students relaxed together in the beautiful MJS courtyard while enjoying Dirt Cups (pudding, crushed oreos, gummy worms). For students interested in these clubs and more: listen to the morning announcements to hear about upcoming meetings.
Our Band and Orchestra ensembles have had a great start to the school year! They are currently working towards their winter concerts.
Over the past month and a half our lost and found table has gathered many items. A big thank you to our office secretary, Ms. Kelly for taking the time this week to organize these items so we can get them back to their owners. Below are pictures of all the items we currently have in our lost and found. If you notice a item that belongs to your child please have them go to the office during their cycle period and check in with Ms. Kelly before picking up their item. Thank you for your assistance in getting these items back to their owners.
Join Us for Madison Junior School's Centennial Celebration!
Attention, Madison residents! We are excited to invite you to the Centennial Celebration at Madison Junior School on Saturday, October 26 from 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM. This special event marks 100 years of our school’s rich history, and we can’t wait to celebrate with the entire community.
The day will start with a ceremony at 10:30 AM, modeled after the original cornerstone-laying ceremony from 1924.

In Madison, we utilize a 1:1 Chromebook model where all students (grades 6-12) receive a district owned Chromebook to utilize during the school day and at home. While there is no cost for the use of the Chromebook, it is important that Chromebooks be maintained and handled in a responsible way. As we continue to move through the school year, we wanted to utilize this time as a reminder for our students and families about the importance of handling Chromebooks with care to prevent damage to the device. The district has expectations and protocols that are listed on the district website that we continue to follow at the building level.
We would like to highlight the specific section regarding lost and damaged chromebooks as a reminder to all parents and guardians:
In the event a Chromebook, case, or charger is lost or damaged beyond repair and deemed to be intentional, excessive, neglectful or student misuse, parents/guardians are responsible for paying the cost of replacement equipment.
Costs:
Chromebook - $365.00
Charger - $47.00
Case - $20.00
Other - Will be quoted by the Tech Department
Note: Final assessment of damage and fines are determined by the Technology Department.
Students are also responsible for the care of any loaners they use. Damage to loaners is subject to the same rules as permanently assigned Chromebooks.
In case of theft, parents/guardians are required to file a formal police report with the Madison Police Department.
Below are the direct links from the district website that pertains to Chromebook care and protocols followed for lost/damaged Chromebooks.

Thank you for your assistance in helping to remind our students about maintaining and handling our Chromebooks in a responsible and safe way.
