Brief History of 160 Main Street
1923 - Madison approved the building plans to construct the new Madison Junior-Senior High School. The High School was briefly housed where the current Central Avenue School is located.
1924 - On June 14, more than 400 people attended the laying of the cornerstone for the new building. The cornerstone, inscribed with “1924,” was laid with a small copper time capsule hidden inside of it.
1925 - In January, a celebration was held in the auditorium at Central Avenue School to say goodbye to Central Avenue which housed Madison High School. At the end of the month, the doors to the new Madison High School opened at 160 Main Street.
1926 - On February 8, the school building dedication ceremony took place.
1926-1927 - The first MHS Yearbook was published.
1958-1959 - The new high school on Ridgedale Avenue opened, and 160 Main Street was just for grades 7 and 8.
2008-2009 - The Madison Junior School welcomed the 6th grade into the building after a building expansion.
