Boys and Girls Basketball: The Season of All Seasons

Boys and Girls Basketball In Their Furthest Season Run in Recent Seasons

With both teams leading the SCAC Metro League this past winter season, your Warriors Basketball program finished their entire season with a combined record for both the Girls’ and Boys’ teams of 42-8, with both teams winning Sectionals, Regionals, and making it to the state semifinals.

Throughout the regular season, the Boys’ team lost only three games, losing each by less than 10 points, and scoring as high as 80 per game. The girls, only losing one game by more than 10 points. The girls finished their season with 1,601 points, with their highest scorers being Sophomore, Abriyah Cunningham, and Senior, Nevaeh Wingate. The boys finished with 1,669 points, with their highest scorers being Junior, Andreo Ash, and Junior, Bruce Wingate.

On March Fifth, Warriors’ Basketball both brought home the Banner after both teams pulled out wins in the Sectional Final. The boys, who rematched with West Genesee once again this year in the final, took home the win 64-59, making this their second consecutive year winning the Sectional Final.  The girls, who haven’t seen much postseason action in recent seasons, pulled out a well deserved win over Cicero-North Syracuse 57-50.

Both Girls and Boys Basketball have had outstanding postseason runs.

This past weekend, both teams competed for a spot in the Final Four of the State Championship. The boys haven’t gotten a taste of the State Championship in recent years, and fell short of the State Championship to Green Tech in 2022.

Saturday, March 11th, the boys matched up with Green Tech again, and came out with the win 65-49. The girls beat Albany High School, 56-51.

Both teams went into the state semifinal on a high, with a long trail of wins to set them up for success.

The boys started the state semifinal game strong, holding a lead by up to 10 points at a time. They let their lead go just a little bit and found themselves in overtime against North Rockland, and unfortunately took the fall, 57-55.

The girls also put up a good fight for their entire game, but ended up losing out on the state championship, with a full time score of 57-46.

Both teams had amazing seasons, and it is no secret that boys’ head coach, Ryan Blackwell, and girls’ head coach, Mike Wheeler, are hoping to bring this momentum into their team in the 2023-2024 season.
