On Saturday, February 2nd, Liverpool High School hosted the 8th annual VEX robotics competition. This competition was organized by LHS tech teacher Matt Starke, who was able to put together 47 teams from Rochester to Lake George for this competition, the largest in Central New York!

The competition had many arenas set up throughout the gym for competitions to take place and for teams to practice their skills, as well as tables set up on the perimeter of the gym for teams to work on their robots. It was overall a great experience for students, staff, and audience in the stand alike

The game that was chosen for this competition is the Tipping Point. In Tipping Point the objective is to score as many points as possible by collecting goals and purple rings. You can also get extra points by putting the goals on top of the platforms. This is a game of back and forth as well as offense and defense.

The highest score at the competition was 254 which went to the Robo Hornets from Harpursville, New York. They won the tournament by 34 points. Both Liverpool teams scored 60 points placing them in 17th and 22nd place. It was a huge honor for Liverpool to host such a big competition, and a major accomplishment for Starke.

The competition that took place had an atmosphere of excitement and fun, every student and adult at the competition had a smile across their face. You could tell how much everyone there wanted to be there at the competition because 24 hours before the competition the area had a major snowstorm and the school closed down for a snow day, so it was a miracle that all 47 teams that registered showed up to the competition!
