Top Looks of the 2023 Met Gala

The Met Gala is one of the top fashion shows of every year and it always starts on the first Monday of May. The Met Gala always has a theme for the exhibition that is going into the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. It is one of the hardest shows to get into with only allowing A-list celebrities that had to get approved by: Anna Wintor who runs the Met Gala. According to Vogue, the theme this year was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty”. Karl Lagerfeld was a well-known designer in fashion being the creative director of Channel from 1983 to his death. The celebrities were told to dress in honor of Karl’s fashion with his signatures of course being the Chanel tweeds and his own black and white uniform. Here are some of the top looks of the Met Gala and do you think they are on theme this year?

First will look at Anne Hathaway’s outfit where she wore a tweed dress that was made by Versace. She pays homage to Karl through his tweed design he was known for at Chanel. The dress was strapless with cutouts around her waist and her leg that were held together with fashionable gold and pearl safety pins. She has tweed gloves, platform heels, and a diamond choker by: Bulgari (According to the BAZAAR) to also go along with the look.

Dua Lipa’s look was a vintage white and black tweed ballgown from Chanel, and the same design was worn by: Claudia Schiffer in the fall 1992 couture collection. Although, it was the necklace that she was wearing that was making headlights. She became the first celebrity to showcase Tiffany & Co.’s new diamond necklace which is being called the: “Lucida Star” necklace. According to Vogue, the white necklace is over 100 carats and pays homage to one of the most iconic necklaces being the yellow Tiffany diamond necklace with its identical cushion cut. The estimated value of the yellow Tiffany diamond necklace is $30 million back in 2019. Only four girls have worn the yellow Tiffany necklace, that being Mary Whitehouse, Audrey Hepburn, Lady Gaga, and Beyoncé.

Doja Cat look was in homage to Karl Lagerfeld's cat which was choupette. The dress was made by Oscar De La Renta. The dress was white with sparkles all along the dress which goes to the bottom with feathers. The hat which was in the shape of cat ears connects to the dress. Complementing it was prosthetics to look like a cat and jewelry as a headpiece.

This year was said to be the most on theme year with everyone dressing as the theme, which had been a criticism of Met Galas before this one. Many decide not to go to this Mat Gala due to Karl Lagerfeld being fatphobic, and not supporting the #MeToo movement. Although with all this going for it the Met Gala was still the biggest fashion show of the year!
