"Manterrupting & Mansplaining"

“Manterrupting & Mansplaining”

In honor of Women’s History Month; many women have come out and spoke about their experiences working with men throughout their career journey.

During the mid 2000’s women came up with different terms like Mansplaining, Manterrupting, and Bropropriating in the sense when women initiate a conversation in a room or workspace that is a male-dominated space; Men would typically cut them off, speak over them, or unnecessarily explaining things to women that they already know.

These instances could be very significant and can impact the women's work performances when their intelligence and expertise are always being tested, questioned, or invalidated. When this issue is being fed into, it starts to create the gender stereotype that has been placed in a workspace.

According to peoplematters.in multiple women have come out and spoke about the experiences they have dealt with working in a male-dominated space.  Smita Shetty Kapoor, CEO & Co-Founder, Kelp hr has stated. “ A senior leader once mansplained my priorities, suggesting that I focus on my family rather than my work. Every time I would call him to give work-related updates, he would interrupt me with questions about my kids, and throw me off my train of thought.”

On March 7, 2023, People Matters’ Big Questions series hosted a conversation about these current issues and how we can bring more attention to it and how we can encourage men to become allies as these women fight for gender equality.

In an ideal world women would love it if men would recognize these issues, support, and listen actively to the inequality that is occurring.
