Where's Silksong?

Hollow Knight: Where's Silksong?!

By: Jaden Smith | 2/9/22

Hollow Knight is a metroidvania style game that is mainly known for its large areas and difficult, but fun, bosses. You play as a small bug known as the Knight, its goal to stop its possessed older sibling, known as the Hollow Knight, from escaping its seal and spreading an infection that’s inside it. The kingdom that you play in, however, has already been affected by the infection, and most of the citizens are the equivalent of walking husks.

One of the characters in the game, Hornet, plays a vital role in the story. She fights the main character twice throughout the whole game (a very frustrating battle for new players), but what she says after both battles and some other events really makes it clear what she sees and wants to happen. Hornet’s motivation at the beginning of the game is to keep the infection at bay, and prevent the Knight from doing anything detrimental to the fallen kingdom that she, and many others, reside in. Near the end of the game, after fighting her twice, Hornet allows the Knight to find out more about the kingdom and its past, along with gaining a bit of respect for it as well.

Hornet is considered a fan favorite among the community of people who have played the game due to her lore heavy dialogue, boss fights, and design. This is one of the main reasons people like Hornet: she makes up for some of the boring or obtuse moments in the game. As a result, a few years ago a teaser for either a sequel or prequel was announced that is solely based on a new story with Hornet.

It is called “Silksong,” and small tidbits of gameplay were shown in the initial teaser. As far as fans know, the player gets to play as Hornet and will have a new moveset, as well as a new story to tell. The game takes place in a kingdom far from the one in the first game.

However, that’s all fans know currently, and that’s because that trailer was released on February 14th, 2019. It has been the only official piece of media that has anything to do with Silksong so far. Team Cherry, the game developers, haven't really posted anything because they want to keep Silksong’s story a mystery. They have leaked a few character names on their website, but not much else.

No one currently knows when the game will be finished, let alone released, but what is known is that there hasn’t been any news about it for quite some time, and fans are getting antsy. Some fans of the game poke fun at the fact that SilkSong still hasn't been released or anything having to do with the game. Some just gave up on the game due to the lack of news. However, there still is hope. The game is still being worked on, so updates could be released any day now.
