How The Chiefs Went from First to Worst

As if this NFL offseason hasn’t been crazy enough, as of Wednesday March 23 at 12:30 in the afternoon, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill has been traded to the Miami Dolphins. This blockbuster trade sent Hill to Miami in exchange for five draft picks. The Chiefs received a first, second, and fourth round pick for this year's NFL draft, as well as a fourth and sixth round pick in the 2023 draft.

The Chiefs stacked up on draft picks, but also saved themselves a lot of money. One of the main reasons Hill was traded is because he wanted to become the highest paid wide receiver in the league, and the Dolphins helped make this happen. Hill signed a three year deal worth $120 million with $72 million guaranteed.

Unfortunately for The Chiefs, they didn’t have enough money for Hill which ended up in them losing them one of their best weapons, and one of the best receivers in the league. Money has become a huge problem for The Chiefs - not only have they lost much on their defense, like their star safety Tyrann Mathieu still floating in free agency, but their division rivals are becoming much more stacked with all star talent.

Hill, who is known for his wicked speed and by his nickname “Cheetah”, was drafted in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL draft which was an absolute steal for Kansas City. Hill had first round talent, but because of the controversy that Hill pleaded guilty to domestic abuse and strangulation when he assaulted his pregnant girlfriend while he attended Oklahoma State University, this caused his stock in the draft to fall tremendously.
