Fall Sports Recap

This year has been a very exciting one, filled with unforgettable moments, and milestones for our Liverpool teams. With guests allowed back in the stands this year, many students have been able to cherish these moments. Our athletes were nothing but Warriors this fall, and in case you missed any of these teams in action this year, we're here to catch you up.

Let’s start off with the team that hosted the most fans in attendance so far this year, the football team. They ended the year with five wins and four losses, with a nice playoff run that ended to rivals CNS, whom we also beat in the regular season. When asked about his team's season, senior lineman J.J. Guindy says, “We fought through a lot of adversity every single week to get the job done the best we could. Many of us set a goal to beat CNS in the regular season.” This team definitely accomplished some big goals, and good luck to all seniors participating in the all star game!

One of the best seasons to start off the year would be the boys volleyball team. The team had a record of 17-3 and ended up winning Sectionals for Liverpool. Star player Jacob Works talks about how he felt on the team and their big win and he said, “When we won sectionals and we all rushed the court… It felt so electric. We went 17-3… yeah we were diesel.” Having a season like this is something everyone in this school remembers for a long time. A record of 17-3 is exceptional for any team, especially to cap it off with a sectional title.

The girls volleyball team was dominant this year as well. The girls won twelve games, and advanced to the conference tournament match where they sadly lost to FM to end their year. One of the most unforgettable moments of the year stated by senior libero, Victoria Slade, “We beat CNS both times from being down 2-0 sets and coming back to win the last… There were ups and downs but overall I think we played a good season and did our best every game.” The girls ended their season with 395 kills and 930 attack attempts, on a very impressive season.

Another team would be the boys soccer team. The team went 5-10-1 but one of their starters Massimo Roja had to say “Year could’ve went better, we sadly didn’t qualify for sectionals but I was proud of the team and the hard work they put in, and yeah I plan on playing in college for sure. I plan on going to St.John Fisher to continue my soccer career as well as majoring in either sports management or exercise science.” Not the best year for the soccer team, but I'm sure they will be getting better and better each year.

The girls swim team had an absolute stellar year, and went on to win eight out of their ten games. The team placed second in sectionals, losing to FM. Aija McIntyre, senior on her swim team, said “Many swimmers got varsity and sectional cuts and some even made it to state quals… I accomplished beating my high score of 218 in a six dive meet, with a score of 228. I also got a sectional swim cut in 50 freestyle and beat my overall eleven meet score with a 358.” This placed McIntyre tenth as a diver overall in the sections.

The girls soccer team had a decent year going 8-7-2 and lost to FM in the finals. Starter for the team, Julianna Colavita, said, “I thought the season went really well. Obviously there were ups and downs but we worked through it and were very successful. Our goals were to make it to sectionals. As a team we haven’t made it in four years so it was a huge goal of ours. And once we made it into sectionals, we wanted to win the championship title. We did come short of that, losing 4-0 to FM in the finals, but overall it was a very successful season.” Overall not a bad season for them, and they continue to get better as every year comes along.

Finally, at the top of the pyramid we have the cheer team who was absolutely stellar this year, taking home the sectional title this year and being one of the only teams to stunt during the competition. “It was rocky. there was a lot of ups and downs with people having to leave the team or us never having a full team practice. im proud of winning both of our comps despite all the hardships”, said by senior, Skylar Sobo. The cheerleaders had a difficult time this year with losing core pieces from the seniors last year, while struggling they managed to preserve past that and win the cheerleading sectional championship.

This would wrap up our fall sports recap, but now winter sports are upcoming and we will be ready to cover those sports and give you updates. We will be covering hockey, cross country, wrestling, and basketball. If you are interested in any of these make sure you keep your eye on our LHS Lifeguard website!
