On July 1st, NBA superstar Damian Lillard requested a trade out of the Portland Trail Blazers specifically to the Miami Heat. Lillard has been part of the Blazers franchise since he entered the league in 2012, being drafted 6th overall. Lillard has expressed and shown his loyalty to Portland throughout the years, but his time in Portland has ended.

After a long offseason of confusion Lillard has been traded, but not to Miami, Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks in a 3-team deal teaming up with 2x MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo. The trade details include:

Blazers receive: Jrue Holiday, Deandre Ayton, Toumani Camara, 2029 first round pick from Milwaukee and pick swap rights in 2028 and 2030 from Milwaukee.

Suns receive: Jusuf Nurkic, Grayson Allen, Nassir Little and Keon Johnson.

Bucks receive: Damian Lillard.

This blockbuster trade puts Milwaukee from championship contenders, to championship favorites. The duo of Lillard and Antetokounmpo will easily be one of the top duos in the NBA. A trade to Miami was so close as well and many thought it was going to go through it was just a matter of time, however the Heat believe that they can go win a championship without Lillard so management didn’t really bid a competing offer, offering Tyler Herro and three first rounds picks, never feeling like to call back and push forward to complete the deal.

The NBA has become more and more talented with harder competition and this blockbuster trade only proves that. The eastern conference is loaded with teams like Boston, Philly, Miami and many more especially the Bucks.
