At 19 years old, Coco Guaff made history during the 2023 U.S. Open Women’s Final. On Saturday, September 9, Guaff became the youngest person to win the Women’s Singles since Serena Williams in 1999.

Guaff originally started playing basketball like her father, but she was never really pleased by it. After seeing Serena Williams play, and win, in the 2007 Australian open, she dropped basketball and started playing tennis at only 6 years old.

During this year’s finals, Guaff went against Aryna Sabalenka, a Belarusian tennis player and 1x Grand Slam Champion. Although Sabalenka won the first set, Guaff won the second and third which ultimately granted her the win. Guaff immediately fell to the floor, with tears rushing down her face. After thanking her parents and all of the people who supported her, she also expressed some appreciation to the people who did not believe in her.

“Honestly, thank you to the people who didn’t believe in me,” Guaff declared after winning the match.

She received a plethora of congratulations, including some kind words from President Joe Biden and President Barack Obama. There were also countless numbers of celebrities in attendance to show their support for Guaff.

Even before winning her first Grand Slam, Guaff was receiving a ton of attention from different companies offering her partnerships and sponsorships. From New Balance helping her create her own shoes, to becoming a brand ambassador for UPS.

Whether you like it or not, Coco Guaff is taking over the world.
