Concerts can be seen as an escape, meeting new people, gaining new favorite songs, and making memories. Some people may say, some of the concerts they’ve been to have been the best nights of their lives.

However, The feeling someone may get leaving the city you saw the show in, or even waking up the next morning can be awful, gross, and almost sticky.

This phenomenon is more common than you may think, and has been collectively given the name “Post Concert Depression,” and is even officially recognized by some therapists and mental health professionals. Here at Liverpool High School, students share their experiences.

“I finally got to see Joji after being a fan for 8+ years.” Shares one student, Lulu Capeles. “Being in that arena, seeing all the people in the seats. Waiting and cheering for the same guy was surreal. Being able to hear songs that have helped me through rough times live made me feel not there. It was almost like my middle school self was watching through my eyes.“ Capeles shares how she felt after the concert, and she continues to feel, saying. “Any time I see a concert that I have been waiting for, I always forget what happens. It’s almost like I was enjoying the concert so much my mind wasn't able to process and retain the concert itself.“ Which, like Post Concert Depression, is extremely common.

Another student shares their experience, stating. “During the concert, I was so happy. Me and my friend screamed our heads off. But once the concert closed, I felt really tired then for like a week, all I wanted was to go back. I would just lay in my bed and watch all the videos I took over and over again.”

Post Concert Depression, which might seem like an excuse to bring up videos and memories, is a very real thing that affects teenagers and adults alike after unforgettable shows. It may enhance pre existing symptoms of depression, or simply last for a week or two, but it is definitely something that should be talked about.
