My WHY:
I believe success comes from making sense of the complex and challenging.
My goal will be to embrace change and realize that sometimes there is a better way to do things.
About Me
I am Katie Blanco. I have been in education for 10 years as a Special Education Aide. When I realized that my love was in the classroom, I decided to finish my degree. So I was working full-time and going to school full-time to complete this step in my life. This is my first year teaching. I feel truly blessed to be part of the Lubbock Cooper family. I feel like I am part of the family at East and cannot wait to begin this journey teaching 1st grade.
I have been married to my husband, Ronnie, for 23 years. For 10 of those years, he was in the Air Force. I have 2 children. My son, Daven, played college baseball in Oklahoma. He is now in real estate here in Lubbock. My son has played since he was 8 years old. Even though he was injured and no longer plays, we still love the game and try to go to as many college baseball games we can. My daughter, Alexis, just graduated from Lubbock Cooper High School. She is working at a doctor’s office and loving life. I am a breast cancer survivor. I have been cancer-free for 12 years now. I received my diagnosis at the age of 30. We found out that in my family, it is genetic. I am a huge advocate for early diagnosis. My mother was not as fortunate and found hers at a very late stage. We have 3 dogs. Coco, a double doodle, will turn 2 in November. Ona, a labradoodle and Alexis’s dog, will turn 2 in September. My baby Luna, a schmorkie, will turn 1 in November. I love to read mystery, thriller books. I love those books where I am constantly trying to figure out what happened and who “did it”.
