Walking into Giles High School on the first day of 8th grade was intimidating, to say the least. At that time, almost five years ago now, graduating felt like a world away. Now, I wish that I could go back in time and do it all over again. High school has been an experience that was challenging, entertaining, frustrating, and overwhelming at times. Overall, it's been a time I will never forget. If I were asked to give advice to any upcoming 8th grader or freshman, it would be to enjoy and cherish all the time in high school that they possibly can.
Some of my favorite memories are ones I made at Giles High School. For example, the first Friday night football game I attended was against Narrows. The atmosphere and enthusiasm of all the fans, the Band, the cheerleaders, and the competitiveness between the schools was absolutely exhilarating. Many of my other favorite memories come from the time I spent on the Lady Spartan Tennis Team. The team and Coach Weddle have always been so supportive and it is such an amazing environment to be a part of. In my sophomore year, I got to play in the three-day Regional Tournament where we came in second in the region and went all the way to States. I will never forget the time I had on the tennis team or my time at Giles High School.
This year has been a challenge, to say the least. However, we are so close to the finish line. After graduation, I have committed to attend Radford University on the track to getting my degree in business. In a year or so, I plan to move in with a few of my friends, who will also be studying at Radford and working towards different degrees. I’m looking forward to the independence and the responsibility that will be placed on me after graduation and I cannot wait to see what the future holds.
