My name is Chanon, but I go by Callie. I am a senior at Giles High School doing virtual learning due to the pandemic. I plan on going to New River Community College this fall to take general classes while I figure out what career I have an interest in. Some of my current interests include art, hiking, traveling, meteorology, and other nature-oriented activities.
Due to the pandemic this year, people have been spending a lot more time outside because one of the main things to do to stay safe. I, personally, have gotten much more connected with nature this year. My friends have gone hiking a bit, and although we haven’t gotten to travel like we wanted to, we still made sure to have fun while being safe.
Another reason people have been outside so much this year is that sunlight or weather can affect mental health positively and negatively. I’ve learned that being outside in the sun really can make your day just a little bit better. Cloudy or rainy days tend to make me feel less productive and lazier, so I try to enjoy the sunny days as they come.
Along with nature comes my love for art. When you take the time to just sit outside on a sunny day, you start to realize all of the different colors and sights that you may not have noticed before. I love drawings and paintings, but my real love for art is with photography and being able to capture all of nature’s beauty.
I love hiking to the Cascades because there are such beautiful views and good energy once you reach the destination.
