Welding

I am a senior welding student at Giles Tech Center in Pearisburg, VA.

Welding is more than just a simple task. Some projects get more complicated than others as you get into them. There are many different types of welding and positions.

Multitasking is the key to success when it comes to welding. There are a lot of math and measurements involved. The rods are like one of the brightest flashlights in the world and often the hottest.

There are different coatings on the rods. These coatings are treated with specific chemicals that react during the weld. There are different sizes. There are specific rods to be used with various types of metal.

In welding competition, I won at the District and State levels. I am going to National competition. The work to qualify includes pipe and stick welding. Great hand-eye coordination is a big part of welding.

I’m excited to go to the National competition. I really hope I will win!

I received a scholarship to attend Welding school in Jacksonville, Florida, after graduation. I'm really looking forward to it.
