“With foster care comes love, trust, FAMILY”

Life in the Foster Care System

My name is Loriann Medlar and I have been through the foster care system multiple times. so I can explain what it's like to be in the foster care system. I have been in foster care twice, some of the homes myself and my siblings were put in were good and some not so much. We were separated after the first home the first time we were put in the system. The first time I was in the system I was at least seven years old maybe younger, then the second time I was 14.

Foster care is a form of a home when you are taken from your parents and placed in someone else's home. I believe that foster care is usually to help children that come from broken homes be loved again. Many children find homes that they would love to stay in or foster parents they would like to be adopted by. In many cases, if they are not able to return back to their biological parents, they may be adopted.

Foster care does have some pros and cons, some cons of the system are how you are split from your family out of nowhere. The home placement may be no better than the home you were taken out of. You can be separated from your siblings if you have them. Also, you are just totally confused throughout the whole process. I believe there are many possible benefits from the foster care system, like the child getting a better support system than what they were getting at home and stability. When they have a stable home there are even foster care benefits for college.

In this blog, I have explained some things that I think are negative and positive within the system. It's my own belief that there are more foster care systems that are good than bad. If you have ever been in the system you would understand many things that have been listed in this blog. Thank you for reading.
