ACTIONABLE ITEMs
Thank you to the WCT Team for completing this task. Let's go NT & PT!!!
At the department meeting a link to a spreadsheet was shared to indicate the LESSON PLAN PLC TEAMS and LEADS. Please meet with the members of your school math team to discuss and finalize the information requested by Thursday, September 29th at 3PM. The link to the spreadsheet is HERE.
NOTE: If you plan to integrate your Quizizz account with Schoology - hold on for a about a week. We are waiting for communication from Quizizz about how to fix that it creates its own category in the gradebook. More information will follow.

Problem of the Day
Share your National Metric Week activities on social media. Tag @usma_metric and use the hashtags #MetricWeek and #GoMetric.
During one of the summer PLCs, it was discovered that Metric Week is celebrated the week of October 9-14. (Metric Day is 10/10, of course!) In support of our colleagues in the Science Department, the following list of activities and fun items are offered. Please review the offerings and next week I will ask you to submit which you will be including in your instruction. They are all short and can be completed as a do now or exit activity. A minimum of one must be selected, unless you have an alternate activity suggestion.
Discussion: Top 10 Reasons the US Should Use SI
Discussion: Customary/Metric Infographic
Video: Metric unit conversions shortcut: fast, easy how-to with examples (5:46)
Art: Design posters and bulletin boards about the metric system, showing its advantages, listing rules for metric usage or conversions, etc.
PS- PRINTABLE PAPER RULERS with instructions how to print them to scale.
PROFESSIONAL/INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES WORTH SHARING
Rory Yakabov (@iteachalgebra) - Hints on how to embrace PhotoMath instead of fighting it. ECST Math Team, these websites are too numerous to block. Let's discuss this more at our next department meeting.
Nancy Pi (New Content!) - Check out Nancy's PLAYLISTS
Jenna Laib - Slow Reveal Graphs What is a slow reveal graph? It starts with a graph that has been stripped of context: its numbers, its labels, its title. The teacher facilitates a discussion around what students notice and wonder. Students might notice that the data is roughly symmetric, or that it is clustered around a central point. They might notice a long line running perpendicular from the x-axis. They might wonder what this line represents. They might wonder what this graph is about. Then another slide is revealed. Students identify what information is new. From there, students can talk more about what they notice. Then another slide is revealed and so on. It forces the students to focus on the scale and labeling of the axes.
