The goal of the ECST Mathematics Department for the 2024-2025 school year is to enhance student performance in the Modeling and Reasoning conceptual categories, as reflected in standardized assessments. This will be achieved by applying innovative strategies developed and refined through professional development sessions and collaborative efforts in professional learning communities.
ACTIONABLE ITEMs
NJGPA Practice Assessment: Great job administering Unit 1 of the assessment. We will continue Unit 2 this week.
Payne Tech: Tuesday - 2/18/2025 Period 3 & 5.
Newark Tech: Friday - 2/21/2025 Period 3 & 5.
West Caldwell Tech: Thursday - 2/20/2025 Periods 1 - 9
Common Assessments
9th Grade Teachers,
Monthly common assessments are realased once a month on IXL. The Algebra I and Geometry - February: Common Assessment will be released soon.
Please click the link below to begin administering our common NJSLA assessment to our 9th graders once a week. We will begin with NJSLA_ALGI_1.1 and NJSLA_GEO_1.1.

10th Grade Teachers
Continue administering the common monthly assessments that are labeled in IXL. The Geometry - February: Common Assessment will be released soon.
Please continue to administer the Sophomore NJGPA Readiness Assessments as you find time.
11th Grade Teachers
Students will continue to take our weekly NJGPA readiness assessments. Please make sure you are following the mapping guide that we have created. Link is below.

Linked below, you will find the Modeling and Reasoning problems to our Google Drive folder. Please continue incorporating a few of these problems each week for your juniors. I’m confident that both our students and we will find them highly effective!

Black History Month Activity Spreadsheet
2025 ECST Math Department – Black History Month Activities
Pick one of the following lessons or activities to be included in your class instruction. Indicate your selected choice on the Google spreadsheet. I copied the spreadsheet from last year so your selections from last year will appear. If you select the same activity as last year, be mindful to change the dates.
Students complete an activity/activities to create a bulletin board inside the classroom.
Truths and a Lie – using black mathematicians and scientists (from last year). One of the statements (2 truths & 1 lie) must be a math related statement.
Facts, information & math word problems from “Bulletin Board Famous Black Americans” (see attachment 1B)
Students complete the 10 Algebra (& one Geometry) worksheet activities & then display on a bulletin board inside the classroom. (see attachments numbered 01 through 10)
Include the “March on Washington” lesson plan in your instruction. Display student work in the classroom. (see attachments beginning with 3)
Include the “Equality Inequalities” lesson plan in your instruction. Display student work in the classroom. (see attachment beginning with 4)

Notes:
Instead of decorating a door, maybe they can decorate a Google slide. A focus on digital projects could be combined to create a slide presentation on Prezi or Peardeck. What about using Powtoon or TextingStory? Get creative. Share your ideas with your team members.
