ACTIONABLE ITEMs
Is there something in particular you would like 1-on-1 support with? Is there something you are willing to help a team member learn or trouble-shoot? We have done this before and it worked well. (Some even made new friends!) If interested in participating, please complete THIS FORM so I can pair team members up.
REMINDERS & IMPORTANT NOTES
WED., JANUARY 18- JANUARY DEPARTMENT MEETING Please bring your book!
JANUARY 16-20 - Q2 Benchmark Assessments (Mid-Term or Final)
Questions to reflect upon before we discuss chapters 4-6:
Has how you organize your room changed over time? If so, why—what happened that prompted the change?
Does the way you currently arrange the furniture in your room encourage or inhibit thinking?
As teachers we want to be helpful. One way to do this is to answer students’ questions. Can you think of any negative consequences that come from answering students’ questions?
Does the way you currently answer questions encourage or inhibit thinking?
At what point in a lesson do you normally give students their first task to work on?
Does when, where, and how you currently give tasks encourage or inhibit thinking?
PROFESSIONAL/INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES WORTH SHARING
Pólya’s Problem Solving Techniques (or Math and Life Advice from a Long-Dead Hungarian Mathematician) was shared by Miriam Garber as a follow up to our discussion at the December department meeting. Thank you, Miriam!
As Mrs. Lopez-Cassano. She will tell you what happened when she gave this question to her juniors. A perfect example of a thinking question that is curriculum based.
