INTERESTING FINDS
Recently, I came across this video on the YouTube channel ANYONE CAN BE A MATH PERSON. The video does a concise delivery of How to Effectively Watch Videos for Learning . It would be helpful for those instructors who frequently flip learning.
From a post by Wendy Fresh in PreCalc FB group:
"Jessica Bernards and I started showing this video to our classes about how to learn from a video and it's made a HUGE difference. It's crazy how many of our students don't realize there is a difference with how to watch an instructional video vs. a random YouTube or TikTok video for fun. Hope this helps those of you using videos for flipping!"
After a discussion with Maria Moura about the valuable practice of students taking notes, she reminded me of when Dr. Jeter introduced Cornell Notetaking to the N13th Street Tech staff. In the "How to Effectively Watch Videos for Learning" YouTube video that was shared with you in this newsletter, it suggests that notetaking is a skill that helps students to retain what they have learned when watching a video. As we know, effective notetaking is a valuable skill (whether in-person or virtual) that not many of our students possess.
If you are unfamiliar with Cornell Notetaking, view this YouTube video for more information. Also, I found a template for Cornell Notes specifically for high school math classes. Take a look: MATH CORNELL NOTETAKING TEMPLATE

The class of 2023 will be the first group to take the NJGPA during the week of March 14-18, 2021. The NJDOE will be releasing more information about the NJGPA shortly. Stay tuned!
