From Inside Mathematics: Social and Emotional Learning and Mathematics. This article focuses on the math practice standards.
From Planbook (Blog): How to Bring Social-Emotional Learning to Your Math Classroom (And Why You Should). This blog emphasizes that math is logical and also emotional.
I have been listening the 9th grade teachers and there is a common theme: students are rusty with solving linear equations (8.EE.C.7). If you are looking for activities that extend beyond the dreaded worksheet or "I do-we do-you do", then these activities may interest you. These may be good to plan for the abbreviated schedules on Nov 1-3.
M+A+T+H=Love : Sorting Cards for Solving Equations With Variable on Both Sides
Engaging Math : Solving Equations Balance Method Card Sort
Illustrative Mathematics Task (8.EE.C.7) : Solving Equations
IM Gr8 U4 L5 : Desmos Lesson and supporting activity blackline masters
Quizziz : Solving One Variable Equations
TPT Free : Two-Step Equations Domino Activity
TPT Free : Multi-Step Equation Station Maze
If there is positive feedback about these activities, then I will do the same for graphing linear functions. But if no one gets to this line of the newsletter and/or has no interest, then I will reclaim my time. 😎
