ACTIONABLE ITEMs
During one of the summer PLCs, it was discovered that Metric Week is celebrated the week of October 9-14. (Metric Day is 10/10, of course!) In support of our colleagues in the Science Department, the following list of activities and fun items are offered. Please review the offerings and INDICATE HERE which activity you will be including in your instruction. They are all short and can be completed as a do now or exit activity. A minimum of one must be selected, unless you have an alternate activity suggestion.
Discussion: Top 10 Reasons the US Should Use SI
Discussion: Customary/Metric Infographic
Video: Metric unit conversions shortcut: fast, easy how-to with examples (5:46)
Art: Design posters or bulletin boards about the metric system, showing its advantages, listing rules for metric usage or conversions, etc.
PS- PRINTABLE PAPER RULERS with instructions how to print them to scale.
Share your National Metric Week activities on social media. Tag @essexcountyschoolsoftechnolgy and @usma_metric and use the hashtags #ECST, #MetricWeek and #GoMetric.
The spreadsheets with the START STRONG scores have been placed in the Google data folders for each building. Please use this data to guide discussions during PLCs and to complete your SGOs. Click on the links to access the data for your students.

By now you should have received an email from Luke at Math Medic with instruction how to access your account for the Math Medic Assessment Platform. If you have not received the email to create an account, look in your junk folder. If it is still not there, email mlandis@essextech.org .
From the email:
"Remember, this is a beta version of the platform. We tell you this for two reasons. First, you will notice that there are only questions available for the first semester of the four courses on Math Medic (the second semester assessments will be added throughout the fall and will be complete by January, 2023). Second, we are still making changes and adding features on the tech side of the platform and we are looking for your feedback on how it can be improved. Please reach out with any suggestions."
The archived EngageNY Curricula for K-PreCalculus has been shared with you at THIS GOOGLE FOLDER. Bookmark your access to this folder!
For discussion at our next department meeting, please preview this online platform for possible use during the Math Madness 2023 event. Think about how we can use the platform internally to develop teams for the competition. Should the math department use this platform or develop our own internal competition?
If you still need the links to the PSAT resources, here they are one more time!
Problem of the Day
A message from Terence Hansford (IT Department): "This is a friendly reminder that students should not be using their personal devices in district. The district spends a great deal of money to ensure every student has a district computer. So teachers, please, if you have students who are using their personal devices in district please persuade them to use their district issued device." How can we tell if it is a district issued device? Look for the ECST inventory tag on the bottom. If it is missing, then it is most likely a personal device.
