Staff

The Design / Create / Innovate Lab has several dedicated full time staff as well as several student staff. You can also talk to them on our Slack, which you can join here.

miyuki weldon

mweldon@chapman.edu

Miyuki Weldon (she/her) is the Makerspace Manager and oversees the Design/Create/Innovate Lab, rooms N102 and N103. She is a mechanical engineer who loves tinkering and playing with new fabrication tools. She also has a passion for ensuring that learning new equipment is not intimidating but rather as accessible as possible for everyone. Please contact her via email or slack regarding anything about the makerspace, from general questions to project or design advice.

Ashley Ricart

Ricart@Chapman.edu

Ashley Ricart is the Makerspace Technician for the Design/ Create/ Innovate Lab. She loves using fabrication technologies to create art. Her background is a mix of design and computer science with a focus on digital sculpting.

Please contact via email or stop by the Makerspace during open hours for general questions about projects or design advice.

Toni Bergeron

ABergeron@Chapman.edu

Toni Bergeron (they/them) is the Makerspace Coordinator for the Design/ Create/ Innovate Lab. They enjoy learning, doing, & facilitating new ways of experiencing, interacting with, and tangibly changing the physical world around us. Their creative & manufacturing experience primarily involves manual & power hand tool use and they're excited to expand their capabilities further.

Please contact via email or stop by the Makerspace during open hours for general questions about projects or design advice.

Student Staff

Chiana Chuc is a senior creative producing major with a visual effects minor. She is always working on different projects and is always willing to assist others in executing their vision. She hopes to continue learning about the phenomenal machines available in the Makerspace and ways to incorporate them into her different involvements. Feel free to contact her via Slack if you have any questions or would like to talk.

Chloe Leis (she/her) is a Film Production major with a minor in Computer Science. She has been a maker since she could pick up a pencil and is constantly pursuing learning new trades. Her father opened the DIYcave in her hometown in 2015, which she has been working in and helping with since day one. She is a creative soul at heart with a curiosity that often leaves her drowning in projects (but she's not complaining). Chloe has extensive experience with laser-cutting and 3D printing and specializes in prop fabrication and cosplay. You can learn more about her cosplay journey here. She can't wait to hear about your ideas and help you make something amazing!

Grace Stuart is a sophomore Graphic Design major with a business and economics themed inquiry. She also has a passion for cinematography and has produced multiple short films over the past two years. She is an innovative student who has six years of experience involving Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Premiere Pro. Although she's worked with Maxon Cinema 4D 25, Fusion360 is the next software she's ready to conquer! She can't wait to lend a helping hand around the lab and is always happy to talk about designing, or give feedback on your work!

Zuleyka Urieta (she/her) is a sophomore Software Engineering major and neuroscience minor! She is passionate about programming as well as anything involving the arts; she loves to paint and draw (traditonally and digitally). She's excited not only to create in the Makerspace but to also help others bring their visions to life. Feel free to reach out to her in the space or via slack, she's always happy to help and talk!

Annika Krein (they/she) is a Senior Animation & Visual effects major and Game Dev minor. She is a creative jack of all trades from the Adobe suite to Autodesk, but most enjoys drawing, gaming, and some good old Dungeons & Dragons. If you'd like an in-depth walkthrough of the sticker printer (her adopted child) or want to tackle a creative project you're not sure how to break down, feel free to chat! She's very eager to show off how accessible the space can be for any level of creativity or tech savviness.

(If you print a mini on the J850, please show her! She'll get a real kick out of hearing about their story.)

Kalin Richardson (she/her) is a sophomore Software Engineering major and Information Security & Policy Minor. She loves working on different side quests including photography, videography, and social media management (follow @chapman_engineering on insta!), along with her passion for engineering and technology. She loves creating things using a variety of the machinery in the Makerspace, but more specifically with 3D Printing, laser-cutting, CNC milling, and more. Do not hesitate to reach out via slack or instagram, she is willing to help out with project ideas/processes, or even just about Chapman in general!

Elliot Hawkins is an Electrical Engineering major and Music Technology minor. First introduced to the engineering field at a young age, he grew a solid connection to Arduino and started his own small projects to grow his knowledge. He loves to create and problem-solve to achieve any task handed to him. Elliot has vast experience in the 3D printing field, designing in Fusion 360, and laser-cutting.

Matt Shugarte is an Electrical Engineering major and Musical Theatre minor. As his choices of study show, he's drawn to a holistic approach to life. He may like engineering, but there are other things he's set his sights on. In addition to memorizing scripts and slashing swords around, he enjoys the competitive racing environment he puts himself in through triathlon races. These interests may seem disconnected and random, but they have given him the right mindset to learn different software programs, manufacturing tools, and fabricating techniques. Through his academic and external opportunities, he's become well-versed in 3D modeling and simulating with Fusion360, soldering, 3D printing, programming, and calculus-based dimensioning. He knows what it's like to start from the ground up, so he's eager to teach folks how to get started on their projects.
