There are several safety precautions you should take when heat pressing:
Wear the heat-protecting gloves at ALL TIMES to avoid burning yourself.
Back away from the heat press once it is locked, as it will abruptly open back up once the timer has ended.
Please ask staff to walk you through your heat pressing if you have never used the machine.
Before using the heat press for heat transfer paper, you must first pass the Roland Versaworks Printer quiz. If you're using the dye sublimation printer, no quiz is required! For your first time using the heat press, please ask a staff member to demonstrate how it works.
The heat press and related materials are stored in a large white cabinet at the back of the Tech Shop. If you're unsure where to find it, just ask a staff member for help!
Dye sub paper is 30 cents a sheet, and heat transfer paper price will vary by length. All other materials (transfer mask, sublimation spray, etc.) are free of charge.Â
A heat press works by applying heat and pressure to transfer a design from a transfer material (like paper or vinyl) onto a substrate (like a t-shirt or other material). The heat activates the adhesive on the transfer, causing it to bond with the substrate. Pressure ensures the transfer is smooth and evenly applied.

Dye sublimation printing is a digital printing process that uses heat to transfer dye onto materials like fabric or other coated surfaces. The process involves printing a design onto special sublimation paper using sublimation inks, then using heat and pressure to transfer the ink.
