Safety
This machine has many safety precautions built in, however, please follow the rules below.
Never grasp moving components when the system is operating.
Never open any covers while the system is operating.
Never touch the oven besides the handles while the system is operating.
Rules
Always get a staff member's approval before operating the machine.
You must get approval before bringing in any materials not provided by the makerspace.
How do I get access to this machine?
Please follow the reflow guide to learn how to use the machine. First projects on the Protoflow S4 must be supervised by staff.
Materials
We provide solderpaste in the fridge of N106B free of charge, however if you are planning on reflowing many boards we ask that you provide your own solderpaste.
How does it work?
The LPKF ProtoFlow S4 is a reflow oven that acts as an alternative to manually soldering surface mounted components using a soldering iron. Solder paste is applied to conductive pads on the board using a stencil. Components are then placed on the solderpaste and the board is placed in the oven. The ProtoFlow has very accurate temperature control and follows a specific temperature profile to heat up and melt the solderpaste to attach the components to the board.
This makes the process of soldering surface mount components much easier and quicker.
More resources
For applications of many boards or large boards, you may want to use the PhotoPrint S4 to easily position your stencil.
