Support removal
Step One: Getting the Gunk Off
When you take your print off of the J850's bed, it will be completely coated in support material. But don't worry; it is easy to remove!
Setting Up & Starting
Grab a paper towel and a pair of tweezers or similar thin instrument, and set up over/near a trash can. (This process is messy, and we don't keep the support material.)
Start by removing large chunks with your fingers.
Next, scrape lightly with your nails or implement. Take care not to actually scratch or break your print, if delicate.
Further refine the model by poking and plucking with the tweezers. It doesn't need to be perfect, but the more you get off, the better.
+ large chunks
+ uncover form
+ nooks & crannies
If the support is too messy and obscuring your print, put it under the faucet for a second to wash off excess.
RESULT - a pretty clean model!
There are some small bits that are difficult to get into, such as between her head and hammer or the underside of her arm, but that's okay-- the next step will clean those right up.
Step 2: Powerwash
Next, we'll be using the water wash station to help get rid of excess support in hard to reach areas.
Let's set it up!
FIRST, Put your models on the metal bed.
- Close & Latch Lid
There are 2 latches on the front of the tub. Securely close both. You may need to hold the lid down to get a secure lock.
2. Turn on Water
Turn the large middle knob to the Left to open it. (remember-- righty tighty lefty loosey!)
3. Turn on Power
On the back of the tub is the power switch. Flip it to the On position, and the light inside the tub will come on.
ON position
Tip of knob is facing TOWARDS which hose you want to use.
Turn it COMPLETELY-- not partway.
OFF position
Tip of knob is facing DOWN, towards the tray. No water should come out.
Now clean it!
Using the hose, spray off stuck bits of support. Turn your model around and spray it from all angles, trying to dislodge as much material as possible.
TIP -- If and when your view gets too wet to see, use the FOOT PEDAL below you to activate the wiper blade!
Reminder: Turn everything off when finished!
Step 3: Bathtime
Finally, we'll put your model in a chemical bath to dissolve the last of the support.
CAUTION - WEAR GLOVES!
This chemicals won't immediately burn your skin but it is still hazardous! Wear gloves, be careful; do not spill or touch your face!
Put On Gloves!
Protect your skin!
Power On
This switch located in bottom right corner.
1. Open the Lid
It folds back easily.
2. Lift Basket
CAUTION-- HEAVY! Lift Slowly and wait for the liquid to pour out. Then position the basket askew, resting on the lip of the basin.
3. Put Small Models in Cage
It should be inside the basket. Bigger models do not need to go in the cage.
Setting up the Wash
Put your models in the cage, the basket back in the bath, and close the lid.
Now, use the "SET" button (above where the finger is) to set up how long the machine washes.
You probably will not need to edit this! The time should be set between 1:30 hours and 2:00 hours; this is a good time for reasonable models.
When it's ready, press "POWER" (finger) to start the machine. You'll know it's running when the round green dial starts to cycle (on the right).
Pickup & Final Clean
When your 1-2 hour time has elapsed, come pick up your models! You'll need to rinse them off or they will be left with a chalky residue.
Wearing gloves, open the bath and retrieve your models.
Next, take them over to the sink and rinse them, gently wiping their surfaces. Towel them off and you're done!
