You must be supervised by a staff member while using this machine
Material must be approved by a staff member prior to using this machine
If material contains metal, screws, nails, or other metallic objects it may not be approved for cutting
You must clean up the saw dust off machine and surrounding area after use
If material is too long/ large to be supported by table, support rollers must be used or another person must be available to assist.
Before operation:
You must wear safety glasses, ear protection and remove all loose clothing, jewelry and securely tie back all long hair/beards
Even if the saw is not on, please be careful when handling objects near the blade as the teeth are very sharp.
During Operation:
Never reach across saw blade
Only run saw with use of a guide, fence, miter gauge, or some type of jig! Never saw freehand, without use any guide.
Never adjust saw or setup while saw is running
Never clear small pieces while blade is moving
Never back stock off blade. Kickback can occur
If it is necessary to remove scrap away from the blade, bring blade to a complete stop and use a stick or brush to remove it.
While cutting, keep fingers and hands from passing through the plane in which saw blade is on
Do not cut using the fence and miter gauge at the same time. This will cause kick back.
Be careful when handling cut wood
Be sure it is safe to operate saw and make sure no one walks behind saw table while it is in use
Support Rollers are used for material longer than 36" in any direction
These are stored to the left of the Shopbot. Ask a staff member if they cannot be located or you need further assistance
The fence is used to make rip cuts
Rip cuts are made when you are cutting parallel to the wood grain
Max rip capacity to right of blade: 24.50 inches
Max rip capacity to left of blade: 9.50 inches
The miter gauge is used to make cross cuts and compound cuts
Cross cuts are any 90 degree cut made perpendicular to the wood grain
Set fence or miter gauge to the desired setting once your material is marked
The fence can be moved along the rails to adjust position closer or farther away from the blade.
To adjust fence position, twist knob.
First, pull knob towards you to unlock rails. Then you can freely slide fence along table by twisting the knob.
Push knob in to lock rails once fence is in desired position so it does not move
Miter gauge pictured above used for making cross cuts and compound cuts.
Do not use for rip cuts
Be sure to use only miter gauge or fence never both at the same time
The following examples are using the fence and the cut is following the grain of the wood
*Not a rip cut - cross cut, only use with a miter gauge*
The following examples are using the miter gauge and the cut is parallel to the grain of the wood
*Only cross cut with a miter gauge - using the fence could cause kickback
Powering on table saw:
Once your guides are setup and you've plugged in the power cord you can power on the table saw. The power switch is located in the front of the machine.
Flip the switch to power on machine.
Green and red alternating lights: Still powering on
Green only on left: Table saw is powered on and ready to cut
See picture on right
Raising the blade:
Use grey handle to raise saw blade so it projects through the top of the work piece approximately ⅛” unless you do not plan to cut all the through your material.
*Table saw does not support dado blades*
Connect vacuum hose to table saw exhaust port and turn on vacuum
To stop & start blade:
Pull red knob towards you to start blade
Push red knob to stop blade once you are finished with your cut
When you are done with the table saw:
Turn off blade
Turn off vacuum and disconnect from exhaust port
Switch off power
Lower the blade
Unplug table saw and put cord away
Left side under table saw
Clean up mess on and around table
Put away any tools, rollers, and place guides back on table saw
Excess material can go in scrap material section if it is unwanted and can still be used
