This piece of equipment is very safe, the only thing to keep in mind is that it can be very top heavy on the tripod so be careful while moving it around.
Projects on the 3D scanner must be approved by staff members before use.
The 3D scanner will be stored while not in use so please ask staff members if you are interested in using it.
The 3D scanner in the makerspace, the eviXscan 3D Heavy Duty Quadro, uses two cameras while projecting a known light pattern onto an object's surface to register the shape of that surface. The software will generate a point cloud based on the scanner's data which can be transformed into a 3D mesh. This scanner is actually two scanners in one, with two inner cameras that can register higher resolution details on smaller parts as well as two outer cameras that can record information from larger objects but with less details.
