Challenge your students to think critically and solve real world problems. RobertKaplinsky.com has great problem based learning ideas with plenty of ended questions. You can search by grade level (kindergarten to Algebra 2) or by any keyword or topic. ~AO
Instead of having your students write a research paper or create a slideshow presentation, have them use those research, writing, and presentation building skills to create a collaborative, informational website. The New Google Sites is very student friendly, and can be used to create a simple, stunning website (like Tiger One and the two examples below). You can assign each student one page of the website, have them research a topic, and record their findings on their page with text, pictures, videos, and hyperlinks like "8th Grade Health-MD," or you can show an entire group of projects in a Google Drive folder like "Amazon Listing Projects." Organize the students' research anyway you like, and when the students are finished, the class has created an informational website to share. ~AO

A few years ago our district began working toward this goal, and a few of us were the “Lone nuts”. Thank you to those of you who jumped on board and became first followers. Thanks to the second and third followers too, because you created the movement! Let's keep the momentum going! ~CC
