What are Digital Tools?

Digital tools are any website, application, app, or software that requires a student account with a username and password.

It is your responsibility as a staff member to recognize when a digital tool is collecting personally identifiable information from students.

ESSENTIAL TOOLS

At Carroll County Public Schools (CCPS), we understand the importance of protecting student information.

A tool is deemed essential when CCPS considers it necessary to deliver educational programs or operational services that support the goals of our system.

All essential tools require a thorough inspection to assure student information is protected. This process aligns with all current Federal and State laws.

SUPPLEMENTAL TOOLS

We trust the professional judgement of our teachers. Allowing teachers to use digital tools in the classroom to enhance instruction provides students the necessary 21st century skills that will be essential in college and/or future careers.

Some supplemental tools can be used with limited or no student information and can be used in the classroom to provide a well-rounded learning experience. However, if a supplemental tool requires student information, these tools are held to the same standard and vetting process as our essential tools.
