Dissolving M&Ms
Abstract
The question is what liquid will help dissolve three M&Ms. My liquids that I am testing are clear soda (Sprite), water, and white vinegar. My hypothesis is the soda will dissolve the M&M faster. I think this because of the carbonation in the soda. While it bubbles it takes off particles from the M&M. I got this idea by myself. I chose this idea because I thought it would be an interesting experiment.
Next, I performed my test by putting the M&Ms in three different containers with the three different liquids. I left them in there for 10 minutes. I will repeat this process 3 times.Than, I will observe how they are different. I will see which liquid has caused the most damage. I will find the average of every M&M.
Experiment Plan
RATIONALE: Which liquid destroys M&Ms the best?
HYPOTHESIS: I think M&Ms will dissolve best in soda because of the carbonation.
PROCEDURE:
1. Gather materials: M&Ms, measuring cup, Sprite, Water and Vinegar
2. Put 1 M&M into ¾ cup of each Sprite, vinegar and water.
3. Wait and observe for about 10 minutes.
4. Look at M&Ms after the 10 minutes
5. Write down which liquid did the most damage by percentage.
6. I will rank the order from 1st to 3rd in which liquid dissolved the best
7. Next I will find the average to create my chart.
RISK: I could splash spill vinegar in my eyes.
ANALYZE: I will compare the color of the M&Ms after soaking in different
liquids
HOW DID I COME UP WITH THIS EXPERIMENT? I have a friend who helped me with
this idea because I like M&M.
