Question: Does crowd noise affect the basketball shooter's shot accuracy.

Hypothesis: I am trying to find out if crowd noise can affect your shooting accuracy. I Hypothesized that crowd noise does affect if you make a basketball shot because some noises may distract you or make you lose your focus.

Procedure:

1. Go to backyard with a basketball.

2. Make a mark about 15 ft away from the basketball net.

3. Shoot 100 shots with crowd noise from a volunteer.

4. Repeat shots without noise.

5. Collect data.

Conclusion: My hypothesis was right. Crowd noise does affect your shooting accuracy. With crowd noise I only made 74 shots out of 100. Without crowd noise I made 90 shots out of 100. I could improve this experiment because after 40 or so shots the shooter could get tired and that would affect if the shooter makes the shot.

Abstract:

Does Crowd Noise Affect a Basketball Shot?

I was investigating whether crowd noise affects if you make a basketball shot. I hypothesized that the crowd noise will affect if you make the shot because the loud cheering or booing may distract the shooter.

First, I went to my backyard where I have a basketball net. Second, I made a mark 15 ft. away from the net where I would shoot. Then, I would shoot with crowd noise from a volunteer. And I would repeat without the crowd noise.

My experiment was based of of 100 shots with and without crowd noise. With crowd noise I made 74 of 100 shots, 74%. Without crowd noise I made 90 shots out of 100, 90%.

Crowd noise does affect your shooting accuracy. With crowd noise I only made 74 out of 100 whereas I made 90 out of 100 without crowd noise. Thus, my hypothesis was correct. I could improve this experiment by taking more shots then getting more data. That would be important because some people shoot better on other days.
