How Does Heat And Moisture Affect The Growth Of Mold On Bread
Question: How does heat and moisture affect the growth of mold on bread
Hypothesis: Mold on food has to be thrown out or else it can make someone sick, but what affects the mold to grow on food. I wanted to find out how this happened, so I used three slices of homemade bread to run the test. Slice number two will have the most moisture. I think slice number two will be the one to grow the most mold.
Procedure:
Get three slices of bread and make sure that the bread has no preservitives
Go get a spray bottle and fill it up with water
Go get a ziplock bag to put the bread on for the experiment
Take the first slice of bread, spray it once, put it in a plastic bag, and put it in a cool dark spot
Take the next slice, spray it twice, put it in a plastic bag, and put it in the same climate as slice one ( This slice is the Variable)
Take the final slice, spray it once, put it in a plastic bag, and put it in a heated area
Wait for four days
Check to see the progress
Collect data
Data:
The second slice of bread grew the most mold.
Slice 1 grew 0.05 sqaure cm.
Slice 2 grew 2.5 sqaure cm.
Slice 3 grew 1.25 sqaure cm.
Conclusion:
After testing the data, I have learned that experiments like this take time and patience. My hypothesis was correct. My hypothesis said that the most moisture will affect the amount of mold that grows on the bread. There are no possible sources of error becuase the outcome could happen differently.
