What melts ice fastest?

Problem- What melts ice the fastest?

Hypothesis- There are many good options to choose from in this experiment. I believe rocksalt will work the best for melting the ice because it is used to melt ice when it snows. Therefore it will melt the ice faster than the salt, epsom salt, and sand.

Procedure-

    1. Get at least four to three cups

    2. Put four to three ice cubes in them

    3. Put salt, epsom salt, sand, and rock salt on top of ice

    4. Wait about hour or an half an hour to see results

  1. Get a measuring cup and get averages

conclusion-

With the average of 46.0 sand was the one that melted the ice faster! My hypothesis was incorrect because I said rock salt. I picked this because people put rock salt out when it snows.

Abstract-

I am testing which product will melt ice faster: salt, rock salt, sand, or epsom salt. I believe the rock salt will melt the ice the fastest. I think this because people put rock salt out on the sidewalk and the street when it snows to stop from slipping.

Here are the steps I did to test this experiment. First, I took about four empty cups and put about 3 to 4 ice cubes in them. Next, I put each product on top of the ice and let it sit for about an hour. Finally i record my data and I was done.

When I recorded my data I got 46.0 for sand. For rock salt I have 24.6. For epsom salt I got 21.3. Salt I have 20.0. Finally for my regular ice I have 18.2.

Sand melts ice faster. Sand had an average of 46.0. My hypothesis was incorrect because I said rock salt and the correct answer was sand. I believe my answer was wrong because rock salt is so you don’t slip.
