Growth of the Program

Over 130 adults have passed through my office or attended class at some point since September 2013. That number keeps growing every day. I still have about 20 students waiting for a tutor to be free. Next year, my replacement will also have a part-time assistant to cover the ground that I couldn't. I am still covering a health literacy unit in my morning ESOL classes. I covered a little bit of civics to switch it up, but I can tell my students prefer learning about health literacy. After all, it is the more practical subject. My evening ESOL students want to learn about job readiness, civics, and geometry, so I am actively planning activities that they might find helpful to their lives. My GED students are still studying hard for their exams. I am trying to give them as many resources as I can. Some of my ESOL students and all of my GED students are interested in field trips. Luckily, I have connections to the city government and museums through my AmeriCorps experience. City Hall is trying to organize a tour of the public art in town. The tour will start at the library and around a couple of blocks nearby. Another museum in a neighboring town is willing to give us free admission for a field trip. A 2nd museum is willing to send a guest speaker. I am going to reach to disaster preparedness and wildlife offices to see if they could come and speak my classes too.
