Library Lounge

Library Lounge is Penn Libraries' online information literacy initiative embedding library resources in Canvas, a learning management system. Library Lounge is customized for each course. Instances have included personal trainers, videos, video quizzes, and discussion boards. I have been an active member in Library Lounge, since December 2015. The following include a list of my impact on the team during my residency.

Increased Awareness of Library Lounge

    • I provided feedback that impacted the outreach strategy geared towards liaison librarians and faculty members.

    • I helped produce a promotional video about Library Lounge geared towards faculty members: https://upenn.hosted.panopto.com/Panopto/Pages/Viewer.aspx?id=c98568d9-704b-42d6-9ac2-a86501356a77&start={0}

    • I presented about Library Lounge to liaison librarians and persuaded STEM librarians to become advocates of this initiative.

    • I co-authored a publication that is currently in the final review process.

      • I co-led an effort to align the Library Lounge curriculum to the ACRL Information Literacy Framework.

      • I co-led a qualitative data analysis project using Nvivo to understand the impact of Library Lounge on student learning outcomes and student interactions with peers, librarians, and course instructors.

Expansion of Library Lounge within the Health Sciences

    • 1 summer course with the Perelman School of Medicine

    • 3 semester-long courses in the School of Nursing

    • 4 faculty members from the School of Nursing and 1 staff member from the Weingarten Learning Resource Center have partnered with the Library Lounge team to produce a video tutorial geared towards student preparing to take the NCLEX, the national board exam for nursing graduates.

    • I recruited 3 health sciences liaison librarians to promote and support Library Lounge in their communities.

    • 1 health sciences liaison librarian and 1 engineering liaison librarian have stated their interest in participating in Library Lounge in their communities.

During the end of my residency, Library Lounge went through an organizational change. As the Community Health & Engineering Librarian, I serve as the Science Libraries representative to Library Lounge, so I continue to contribute feedback at Library Lounge team meetings. During the 2018 - 2019 academic year, a year of organizational change at Penn Libraries, I introduced Library Lounge to the School of Engineering and Applied Science and the School of Veterinary Medicine and helped compile the Library Lounge's history for its first official annual report. I am actively collaborating with the Library Team on an IRB-approved study on the critical path of the student research process.
