Graduation is Tomorrow!

Tomorrow, 80 students and guests will be attending the graduation party/potluck. This is exciting. Tonight, I will make an Oreo Icebox Cake for my students. Oreos are America's favorite cookie. Coolwhip and almond milk are the other ingredients. I am hoping that students will bring the foods and drinks they signed up for, because my Oreo Icebox Cake will not be big. As I was looking at my roster, I realized that I have helped about 180 students since September. That's quite a number. This past weekend, we had a Memorial Day BBQ as our Friday team-building meeting, and an AmeriCorps alum invited current AmeriCorps members to check out the children's art museum she works at. It was nice of her to invite us. She also encouraged my peers and I to apply for the jobs available at her work place. On Saturday, I served at the Cancer Survivors' Day event at a park. I was supervising children who were getting on and off the complimentary train/trolley. It was a hot day, but it was another great service project. On Sunday, I attended a fellow AmeriCorps member's baby shower. It was a nice event to attend. Our supervisors even showed up too. I bought the baby-to-be a book to promote literacy and lot of baby food. Fortunately for me, SNAP does pay for baby food. Yesterday, I went to the beach. I make it a point to visit the beach at least once a week. Come July, I will no longer live within a walking distance from the beach. My students who do understand that I am leaving really do appreciate what I have done this past year. At tomorrow's ceremony, I will be giving certificates, brochures, bookmarks, flyers, books, and much more.
