Upgrades From Windows 7

This section is about upgrading your existing Windows 7 to Windows 10. If yo do not own a valid and genuine Windows 7, you might want to consider installing from USB Stick. Otherwise, you may proceed.

Microsoft is still allowing Windows 7 users to upgrade into Windows 10 using the media creation tool. However, they no longer promoting such upgrading channel to general public in exchange for selling Windows 10 licensing. Hence, it is up to the tech savvy developers to find out and test it on your own.

This page is what I had tested on May 14, 2019, where the Windows 7 upgrades are still working for both x86_64 and x86 CPU Architecture.

#1 - Backup Your Data

Always backup your data before performing a system-wide upgrades. There is no telling or guarantees what will happen if the Windows 10 setup fails.

#2 - Download the Media Creation Tool ISO file and Burn it into USB Stick

Once done, you need to download the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (Link: https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10ISO) and then create your Windows 10 Upgrading Stick.

#3 - Insert the USB Drive and Run the Setup

Once you have the USB installer stick, you can now run the setup by plugging in the USB stick into your targeted computer. Run the Setup and you're good to go on an semi-autopilot mode.

#4 - Select Updates, Drivers, and Optional Features

Like it or not, we just want updates and drivers compatible with Windows 10. This is because Windows 7 and Windows 10 are 2 different systems and anything works in Windows 7 does not necessary means it is working in Windows 10. The good news is that on Windows 10, you do not need to perform driver hunting anymore.

Upon completion, you should get a final decision on whether to install the Windows 10 or otherwise. You may proceed to install the Windows 10. How long it takes...depending on your system. What I did was left it overnight so the in the next day, I have a new system.
