Dangling Modifiers Mistake

This mistake occurs when a word/phrase that describes the subject is wrongly applied due to the sentence structure. Normally, this occurs when we create the clauses independently without doing a check.

Things to Watch Out

  • Watch for comma after writing a modifier, you should always follow up with the corresponding subject after the it.

CASE I

Flashing lightning and thunder, the little bunny struggled to the storm.
  • the bunny, does not flash and creates thunder.
  • Correct Sentence: Flashing lightning and thunder, the storm raged as the bunny struggled.

CASE II

Running around on his little hamster wheel, Albert watched his pet exercise.
  • Albert doesn't run around his little hamster wheel.
  • Correct Sentence: Running around his little hamster wheel, the critter exercised while Albert watched.
