Deleting Courses

CAUTION: THIS PROCESS IS PERMANENT, AND SHOULD ONLY BE DONE IF YOU ARE CONFIDENT YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING. IF IN DOUBT, USE THE "CONCLUDE COURSE" OPTION INSTEAD.

Sometimes you create a course by mistake and you want to delete it permanently from Canvas. This course should have never seen any student use. If you have worked with students, please use the "Conclude Course" option instead.

To delete a course:

1. Open the course you wish to delete.

2. Record the course ID as an insurance policy. (The only way to restore a course is to know its course ID.)

   1. The is a 4 or 5 digit number located in every URL in the course.

   2. In this example, the URL for the course is https://flaschools.instructure.com/courses/6003 which means my course ID is 6003. I will email this to myself along with the course name "just in case".

3. Scroll down to the "Settings" option.

4. On the right hand side of the page, you will see the option for "Delete this Course". Click it and confirm.

5. That's it. Let's hope it was the correct class!
