Concluding (removing) Students

Here's How to Conclude a Student Enrollment

(a.k.a. Removing a student from your Canvas gradebook that is no longer listed in Synergy)

thank you to Ashley Blake for putting this together

CAUTION: When concluding an enrollment, your student's grades will disappear from your grade book. They are not lost, but it will require intervention from a Canvas admin to get them back. If the student is moving to a different teacher, be sure to print out the grades for assignments before you conclude the student's enrollment.

As students’ schedules change, you may find that they are no longer enrolled in your course in Synergy, but are still showing up in your course in Canvas. This is a problem, as it will appear as though the student is not attending and failing a class they are no longer scheduled for. Here is how you can conclude their enrollment so that they no longer appear in your class.

1. From your dashboard, go into the course of the student you wish to remove. (NOTE: If the student hasn't been removed from your course in Synergy, they will be re-added to your Canvas course overnight.)

2. Select “People” from the left hand menu

3. Find the name of a person that you need to conclude from the course. Click on the three dots to the right of that person. Then select “User Details” from the drop down menu.

4. Find and click on “more user details…”

5. Click “Conclude this Enrollment” from the Membership(s) box that opens up. You will want to conclude them for each section listed.

You should no longer see this student in your Grades or People lists.
