Move Site Location

Copying your website from an outside Google account into flaschools.org

Make your flaschools.org account an owner of your existing teacher website on google.com:

  • Login to your private google.com account and go to your teacher website.

  • Under the blue "Share" button, add your district email to the "Invite People" box AND CHANGE the edit setting (pencil icon) to the "is owner" setting.

  • Click the "Send" button.

Log out of your personal Google account.

Sign into Google with your flaschools.org Google Account:

  • In your email, you should see a message that has the teacher website name in the subject line. Open this email.

  • In the email, click the link to open the website.

  • Your teacher website should open.

Copy the Site under your flaschools.org account:

  • Click the Gear button in the upper right corner. If it is not showing, scroll to the bottom of the site, and click the "Sign In" link and sign in.

  • Under the gear, find the "Manage Site" option.

  • Scroll down and find the"Copy Site" link and determine the options you want, then click the "Copy Site" button.

  • This copies the text of the site to the flaschools.org domain.

Dealing with images:

  • Your newly copied site looks like it is all there, but this is an illusion. The images on the site are actually just pointing back to your old site. If you delete the old site, all of your images will be broken and unavailable.

  • You have several options for dealing with your images:

    1. Start Over - If you don't have many images, now may be a great time to freshen up your site with something new.

    2. Leave your old site up and running. This is a temporary solution, however, as you will want to get your old site offline, otherwise, search engines and bookmarked links will continue to drive people to the old site.

    3. Copy all of your images from your old site, and re-upload them to your new site. (I did this with my site which had at least a hundred images. It took some time, but I am glad I got it done.)

      1. Go to your old site.

      2. For each image, right-click and select "Save image as".

      3. Save the image into a place you can find it (I use my desktop since it is temporary). Be sure to name it something that makes sense to you.

      4. Go into your new site. Delete the image that is there, and upload the actual image from your chosen location (desktop or whatever).

      5. Repeat until all images have been replaced.

Finishing Steps:

  • Since you are moving to your new copy of the site, be sure to send me the new URL of this site to replace the old site address on the high school website.

  • Log out of your flaschools.org account.

  • IF YOU ARE CONFIDENT THAT YOU SUCCESSFULLY COPIED THE WEBSITE TO YOUR NEW LOCATION, DO THE FOLLOWING. IF YOU HAVE DOUBTS, SEE ME FIRST!

  • Log back into your personal google.com account.

  • Open your old teacher website. Click the Gear button, and go to "Manage site" as you did above.

  • Halfway down, find and click "Delete this site" button and confirm. (This button is to the right of the "Copy Site" button you used earlier.)
